It has
also been a Ramsar site since 2002. Being brackish,
the waters of Bourgas Lake do not freeze in winter.
That is why tens of thousands of waterfowl spend the
cold months here. This is one of the most important
areas for the wintering Dalmatian Pelicans, Pygmy Cormorants
and White-headed Ducks in Bulgaria. The lake supports
also numerous congregations of divers, grebes, Great
Egrets, White-fronted Geese, Pochards, Tufted Ducks,
Smews, gulls etc. |
