Sofia (Bulgaria's Capital)

Sofia has a population of approx 1,200,000 million people and is Bulgaria's Capital City and is situated in the Southwest of Bulgaria..

Following the demise of communism in 1989 Sofia continues to" Westernise" as gleaming glass towers of luxurious hotels and numerous western brand named stores are evident.

Sofia sits on a 545 metre plateau at the foot of MT Vitosha, having excellent hiking and skiing spots on its doorstep. The city is also the hub of much of Bulgaria's public transport network, which includes trams, buses, trolleybuses and an underground metro system. The cost is 0.50.lv single ticket ,a one day pass costs 2.lv whereas a 5 day pass will cost 9.lv. Taxi's too are very affordable and are metered.

Sofia is renowned for its many museums, historical architectural and cultural sites. Whilst being a gourmet heaven it has an unrivalled selection of international cusines at wonderfully low prices. It hosts great nightlife amongst its bars, nightclubs, discos, and shows which are very varied along with its fair share of cafes, snack-bars and fast food outlets.
